3) Clean often. I have one carpet that I waited way too long and it just won’t come clean. The pros can’t and I can’t. BIG lesson learned there.

Enter the Beast. The “terminator” of all vacuum cleaners; the big, gleaming new Hoover Steam Vac with Surge Clean arrived in the mail a month ago. At first, I thought, “Oh great, it needs assembling. My two cats look at the vacuum in awe, as if somehow they know that they have finally met their match. Such a sight is enough to bring a tear to the pet owner’s eyes. Power

A vacuum cleaner with powerful suction can depend on many things but the wattage of the motor is a very good indicator of its power. The more Watts a vacuum has, the more powerful it is. A good figure for a cylinder cleaner is around 1400 Watts, and 1300 for an upright.

Bag or Bagless

This seems to be the latest, and most confusing, feature on many vacuum cleaners. Until recently, all vacuum cleaners collected dirt in a bag. Filtration

When a vacuum sucks up dirt some particles are expelled out the exhaust of the vacuum. The type of filter determines the size and number of particles that are expelled. There are now three types of filters on offer. Standard filtration is now usually found in only low cost vacuum cleaners. If you buy a vacuum cleaner with standard filtration, make sure you look for one with more than one filtration level. S-class and HEPA filters greatly reduce the number and size of particles that are emitted back into the air. These types of filter retain up to 99.97% of dust, down to 0.3 microns (microscopic in size). Allergy sufferers should only consider using HEPA filters. Sometime yesterday, my daughter spilled ovaltine chocolate milk onto the light beige carpet in her toy room. (P.S., this is a brand new house that we built last year… Ugh!) Instead of TELLING us, she just left it there, and it wasn't until this morning that I discovered it. I have tried everything I can think of:

1st: Woolite Oxi Carpet Stain remover (I have used Resolve in the past, and I think this stuff works better)
2nd: The woolite “pod” that they advertise on TV
3rd: Oxiclean
4th: My Hoover steam vac
5th: Borax gently rubbed in with a scrub brush
6th: Grandma's secret spot remover
7th: My Hoover steam vac again

Any other ideas? The ovaltine makes sort of a pink stain. It looks terrible against the light beige. Please help!!!
